a fairground life

That is the first week in the shed over. Progress on the new skydiver floors is quite good.We had one side working under hydraulic pressure today. The second floor will be a bit quicker now we have worked out a method. The overhead crane has come in really handy, it was worth the expense to get it repaired. The photo shows "r" taking himself for a "wee huddle" on the crane.
He looks like Biggles with the hat and welding goggles.

I have just spent the last hour or so reading this blog and have just been blown away with the detail and honesty of its content. I now live in Birmingham but grew up in Mayfield Midlothian which you would attend each Feb with the upright "Thrilling ParaTrooper Sensation"!!! With it being the month of Feb you could expect to ride in gales, snow, sleet and rain. Not to mention the old brown ERF parked at the side that you always thought you were gojng to crash into when riding!! This was in the mid to late 80's when i was a young teenager and you were on the ground with John Evans. I loved the ride mostly because it was the only high in the sky ride on the ground, i recall you giving me a number of Evans free passes when paying my 30P to ride one time, i think this was to rid of me!!! Or the few times when you kept me on the ride free of charge as other riders got on. I thank you for this as it still creates great childhood for me to this day. From reading the blog i can see how much your family biz has expanded and i wish you the very best of tartan for the future.

Thanks for the comment, it is true about the weather on the top of that hill at Mayfield. The wind was cutting and usually accompanied by snow. In fact you just brought back a memory of a story that I will write up in a couple of days. The old brown ERF was always positioned near the ride. This was to be handy for the wiring, pulling down and protect the ride from the wind. It is true that riders would think they were going to fly into it, but rest assured we always made sure it was clear of the ride, anyway this was probably half the thrill!!I think the last time the old para was there was 1987. Regards.
