a fairground life

On Monday morning I was in Gala for 6:45 am. The ground was hard even after the previous nights rain fall. It was after 10am when the DZ was set on its plot. We erected this first before setting the Miami. There were a few light showers throughout the day but the weather turned nice at night. At 2:30 pm the miami was erected too, apart from attaching the weights. We headed off in search of a pipe. The engineer at Selkirk made a couple of calls and sent us to a chap in Bonchester Bridge. He had a small work shop but it was full of first class machinery. When we arrived he had already started the new pipe. Only five minutes later it was all finished. This chap does a lot of work for the forrestry chaps hence why he had the heavy duty hydraulic gear. An hour later we were back at Gala and the pipe was fitted. The ride was finished off and all systems seem go. Last night a few of the lads decided to have a party, live music from two guitar players come singers, strobe lighting, laser lighting, BBQ and beer. It sounded like (from my bed 50 yrds away) that it was going to be a real good night, only thing was 10 minutes in and the gig was cancelled when the boys in blue arrived due to a complaint. Maybe they over done it with two guitars or maybe it was just the awful singing?
Today was a real scorcher, like what summers used to be, not much chance of Gala getting messed up at this rate, but never say never.

What time do you normally open at Gala on the Saturday? We are plannning a wee run that day incorporating Galashiels, Loanhead, Polbeath, Shotts, Whitburn, Winchburgh, Bo'ness......
so getting to the first one as early as possible is quite important!

Wl ok for me this year. The rain on the last saturday spoiled things a bit,but still worth the trip over two weeks. With regards to well behaved kids, the same goes for wl. The kids always well behaved and the locals welcoming and hospitable every year. Probably my favourite place.I'm looking forward to going next year already.
Not so lucky last weekend. Had a local event, but not up to much. Would have to consider if its worth a second chance next year.
I'm of to yorkshire on friday so wish me luck. I go up to the highlands the week after that then have a week out unless something comes up. July always dodgy for me. I have a couple of events that can change dates depending on the tides[they both involve lifeboat displays],and one of them has been cancelled this year. It will be a big miss.
Thanks to showman for the call to tell me they all sitting out in the sun at gala having a beer and barbie yesterday. Its a tough life this show business right enough. If it was a feeble attempt to make me jealous then it was a waste of your time. The day i'm envious[thats another word for jealous r] of the likes of you is the day i chuck it. No offence by the way.
Hope all regs well and the sun shines for you all this weekend.

we usually open for 1pm on saturday at gala. it would make sense (I think) to start further away and work your way home as then your outward journey time could be before any of the gigs are open.
