a fairground life (secc)
Tuesday morning we head over the the secc, the DropZone is already in the carpark from the day before. The traffic was heavy on the M8 and we arrived ten minutes later than planned at 8:10am. The door to hall 4 was open and within 5 minutes we were in and set on the plot. We used the generator for power to get built up so we didn't have to wait for the sparkies to connect us up. As the floor is perfectly flat the ride was levelled in a jiffy. In fact the ride was erected very quickly and we then started on the other jobs. "R" replaced a sticky limit swich while I cleaned all the handrails, then I waxed the panels of the ride. At noon we stopped for lunch. When we started again we cleaned all the brush contacts, waxed the control box, got every single bulb on the tower working (first ever I think) which then made the fuse blow!! So "r" climbed the tower and replaced the fuse (stupid designer put fuse box at the top of the tower!). After that we painted the tower yellow again. The ride is very smart and tidy. While we were doing all this the other operators were building up too. The layout has changed again and we have new rides in- Superbowl, Superstar , Extreme and the Mega mix. The large Gallopers, TopSpin and Twister Coaster rides are delete. The DZ has moved over one plot from last year. It was 7:30pm before we called it a night, we wanted every last job done as when them doors open on Friday it will be "full on" for two weeks. All we have to do is erect the Q pen when the sections are delivered. The photo is a blurry section of hall 4 taken by "r" as we test run the DZ.

glad to here all went well in build up i may pop up over the festive period, any chance of a pic of the dz in all its glory sparkling and all lighten up! as i write this im phoning suppliers to stock up on feed and diesel for the festive season as they seem to have 2 weeks off every year they seem to forget that other trades and industries dont get the chance of time aff lol, many thanks
Hi i've nothing to say. Just proving that i'm not a technophobe, and i can still comment on this rubbish. I will read r's post when i get time, and will give my opinion. I hope there's something i can insult him on so he falls out with me,and cant come over to comandere the aforementioned 50 inch tv.
borderer is right on the money everyone does seem to shut down for two weeks around christmas. like yourself we have stocked up on components for the dropzone that we think may need replaced during the holidays such as ball-races and light bulbs. the problem with the SECC is you cant do any major jobs while the Hall is open to public, like grinding and welding. The other problem is you get kicked out about 11pm and even with special permission the earliest you can start is 7 am so if you have a large brake down you only have a small window in which to fix it. this my not sound worrying but couple it with the fact that you can only be shut for a set amount of "opening hours" then they start docking your pay and its a slight worry not being able to get parts quickly during the holidays.
Been following this page for ages and just want to thank all you showmen (I think grafters is a better word)for all the time and info spent keeping us flatties up to date. Hope you do well at the Secc Mr Showman
