a fairground life (Drymen show)
I took the skydiver over to the Drymen Show on Tuesday afternoon. The sun was splitting the sky and the field was hard as a rock. The ground was not set as "d" was in Middlesbrough and would not be up until the next morning. I knew this and planned to bring the DZ in the next morning and then build up.So we just parked off the roadway through the field.
Wednesday and the rain was pouring down, all through the night and all afternoon. We arrived back at the showground and I could see "d" in the distance marking out the plots. The rain was falling heavily. I jumped in the skydiver and drove it onto its plot. Then we uncoupled and set the unit behind the ride. So far so good. Next the DZ was swung around onto its plot. The unit uncoupled and parked next to the other. Set with no skidding great!! We erected the DZ as it was in the middle and would not hold anyone up standing next to it. We were soaked through to the skin and decided to leave the Skydiver until the next day. Off we set for home, the traffic was heavy and we were over an hour extra on the journey. The wet clothes were drying on us and it was very uncomfortable to say the least.
Thursday and back out to the showground. This time the weather was scorching again and we built up the skydiver. The "jw"s miami came in-got stuck and needed a chug from the tractor, then "pp"s arcade went down and needed a tow too. "two brains" came in with the dodgem artic and in an impressive bit of driving, rallied across the field and jack knifed right onto the plot perfectly. Then slammed the anchors on and nearly tipped the whole lot up, for a split second I thought the trailer was going to clout the back of the cab. It didn't though and he was set without any problems. It was mid afternoon by now. "r" and I headed out to the miami to set up for the music event. We set up in only an hour, then changed the set filter, greased the machine and put some new brushes in for the boat lights. So a full days work.
The picture is someone else getting towed-for a change!

Well it's drymen time again.Do you all realise it's my aniversary. It's been a year since i first hacked in to this dirge in an atempt to liven it up.Im not one to blow my own trumpet, but i think i have succeded.Anyway i will keep to my sacred vow 'and will continue to to hack in for as long as this rubbish continue's.You wont catch me threatening to quit just to get people to beg me to continue. What a drama queen.
Sorry that last comment should have come up as blakey.Ps i know it should be succeeded.
you had more news than that blakey! why didn't you tell the world of your generator problems? oh silly me! that would be because it would end in "showman told me to change the battery from the word go!!!!!"
borderer here i see ur brothers in hawick now with the dodgems and twist u attending hawick personally many thanks keep up the good blogs.
Last time I was in Hawick open was about 6 years ago. Don't think I will be returning soon, but you never know.
Set problems blakey? Tell all!, what set you running? Hope drymen stays dry for you that looks like a bad field to get off if it rains, still your lucky to have a helpfull back hoe floating around. Should be compulsory for all events to provide this until the last ride is off the field. It dos no harm to dream....
Should be hot this wknd!
Dont write about my trials and tribulations'i leave the sob story's to you.If i wrote about my average week it would make you look like a holiday maker. The faithful would get tired just reading about it.Mind i suppose it better than actually falling asleep while reading your rubbish. At leasr my battery's got water in it.
sorry jesters that last comment aimed at showman 'just read your comment. I have a lister. It about forty amps.Plenty to run all my stuff.I ALSO KEEP A PETROL HONDA IN LORRY AS BACK UP 'AS I GO TO A LOT OF PLACES ON MY own.[no one to tap on to if i have trouble].The wee set will run roundabout as long as i leave the light's out.Dont need lights on stalls as mostly open during days.
showman TOLD you how to fix the set, i had to take the electronic stopper off FOR you and to jump start the set with OUR charger on the battery you started the petrol Honda IN THE BACK OF THE LORRY WHERE WE WERE WORKING !! (cough cough) that is after spending ten minutes trying to start it with the fuel turned off !! ( pointed out to you by me no less ) i'm surprised they let you out ALONE never mind shooting off to galas
P.s up until a few days ago i always looked at the stickers saying "DON'T OPERATE INDOORS" on Honda's and thought who needs to be told that, well now i know !!
Likewise blakey, i am also running a old two cylinder 8kva lister set. Noisey but generally reliable. Had a avr board go on mine last year, the strangle solenoid was disconnected long ago as the set wasnt charging the battery and would run the battery down until the solenoid let go and killed it off. Starting circuit has also been modified to improve reliability. I cant run off a petrol set as too small.
ho r if you daft enough to get your hands dirty on my set while i stand and watch then that's fine by me.Had to use your charger cos showman put mine in shed instead of lorry after he used it to start two of your lorries. Was'nt indoors as back door of lorry was up.
