a fairground life (only nuts and bolts!)

It's not uncommon for there to be fender benders on fairgrounds. After all it is usually a tight space with many large vehicles moving, turning or shunting. Unfortunately it was our turn to experience this at the last fair. A showman moved his lorry and reversed it into "r"'s trailer. This didn't do any real damage at that point but when he continued to reverse and push the trailer into the one behind it,well that's when it all went pop! The tow bar of the trailer behind pushed right through the end of "r"s and into the interior. Hopefully the insurance will take care of everything and since no one was hurt, it's nothing more than an inconvenience, as my father used to say "what are you worried about son? Its only nuts and bolts!". So we had to take our trailer up to "r" so he could move out of his into ours while his is away for repair. It took a few hours to move his clothes and all the rest of his gear-xbox,tv,books,laptop,DVD's etc etc etc.Its surprising just what contents are in there. It could have been a bit quicker but Mrs Showman is fanatically clean and every thing had to be wiped, sorted and arranged. She also managed to throw out two black bags worth of items that didn't quite meet her spec. During this we built up the DZ at the fair. Anyway we eventually managed to get the trailer away to an agent for a quote and hopefully speedy repair.
We have been busy repairing the Skydiver truck too. A couple of days ago we took over the Oxygen and Gas burners one morning and we heated up that broken suspension bolt nice and toasty! At that we applied a 36mm socket on a 3/4 inch drive ratchet with a 2ft bar attached and it screwed out no problem at all then another was wound in. The battery was picked up also during the week and I'm happy to say the EC11 started up no problemoh, just hope it does so next month when we need to start out. Diesel at an all time high 0f £139.9 per liter of derv and 76p for gas oil (generator fuel), better visit the shows this year kids cos it could be the last year!
There we go,another week in a fairground life with no wins on the post code lottery, lotto, euro millions, ernie or the megabucks accumulator in sin city! Guess I'll just have to keep on working.

picture is RM's splendid rock o plane after new paint ,all new lighting and wiring fitted a couple of weeks back.
PS. almost forgot to mention that "r" made all new handrails for it too!

Didn't expect this post so soon neither Mr Showman, any initials for the person who was learning to reverse there lorry? that's not fair really Mr S cos I suppose accidents do happen its that sod feller and his law that does it.
Hope every thing gets fixed with out to much trouble and "r" is back up and running. Nice in a way it turned out cos he got a little spring cleaning done in to the bargain. The EC11 and S/D truck should be good for the start of the season now after all that. That earthquake will be another excuse to hike the fuel up even further although Japan isn't an oil producer the markets will have some sort of excuse.

Hope "r" gets his trailer back soon Showman, hope it wasn't too badly damaged. Hows biz been this week? On the subject of diesal prices, hit 146.9p this week at home and like Flatty says, after the events in Japan this could rise even more. Bear in mind only 2 months ago the average price of diesel was 128p a litre (normally about 5 or 6p more in rural areas) but even then a rise of 10p in 2 months is too much. Time for a cut in fuel prices I think, big time!

Things very quiet on the Western Front. Got my new Nokia C7 on Thursday after my N97 deciding to break on me, only 6 months after it being repaired. Been taking it easy this week, and will be for the next few weeks, as this Monday coming I go into hospital for another op on my ear (similar to the op I had in September 09...same ear as well). Will post an update when I'm home.

Hope all regs are well

Regards

C

Afternoon showman sorry to hear about "r" trailer hope its a speedy fix ? OH btw showman hows the house nowadays?? everything going fine I ask this as the boiler has packed in after 9 months of it being brand new i think the tradesmanship was shoddy on the above item so its under guarantee but still 9 months its not alot in a boiler life i should have listened to you when you first told me to keep a gun to there heads. In relation to diesel prices were currently paying 134.9 at our local station yet others in the region are charging up to 145.9 scandal. hope all regs are well regards borderer.

I have to point out that i did design the handrails for RM with his input and i was there for making the prototype, the jig and tacking all the handrails together but it was RM who stayed in the shed until 4am welding them all up and painting them. As for the lights i wired up one arm as a template but again it was RM who done the rest (and it was RM who figured out the wiring sequence of the yellow sections which i have no doubt took a lot of perseverance !!). i have done a fair stint in the shed over the past few years but i am yet to log a full 24 hours without a brake !! without a doubt RM is a true member of the "shed rat" fraternity all that work done in just 2 weeks !!

Hello "r" I think you and "rm" have done an excellent job on the R.O.P.
Its this type of hard work and dedication at winter time that helps to get the punter on the seats during the summer. Its good of you to put each others work in perspective and not taking credit for some thing you didn't do which in a way raises your profile in the travelling world. Don,t forget in Flatty's world no one helps anyone else and you have to "just get by" So far I have only found the show folk who are really willing to go out on a limb for one another with out wanting any form of recognition. Just to say to "rm" the machine looks brand new and you have done a great job
and wish you lots of luck with it during the coming seasons.
Hope all the Regs are making a bob.
Kind Regards, Flatty
