a fairground life
Well back to civilisation (well Glasgow) today for more Guild cases. Told you I had filled my quota. Anyway a chance to catch up on emails, missed calls and update the blog.
Monday, I took the miami over to Selkirk, set it on the plot. "r" and I built it up then we headed over to Burntisland to attend to matters there. Just after 9pm we got back to the village. "r" dropped me off and he headed back to Glasgow to return some empty barrels and pick up supplies-paint & halogens. Noticed that the miami trailer brakes were poor so instructed "r" to have a go at them while at Selkirk.
Tuesday, spent all afternoon doing small odd jobs around the place. Finally since starting out had a few minutes to spare on the tackle. That's the benefit of being on site with the equipment and not commuting.
Wednesday "R" called to say he had removed a hub and found the shoes were worn down. Also he had found a kink in the service airline. He had also pulled up the other three slack adjusters. New shoes ordered, hopefully all this will resolve the brake problems. Wed-night we opened for the "Barra race" through the river. The afternoon was scorching, but in a repeat of last Friday evening the heavens opened at 7 pm and cleared the event. Closed for just after 8pm, sigh!
The picture is of "rc"s new ghost train at Selkirk.

borderer here yes rcs ghost train was at hawick this year, showman do you no the wareabouts of treasure island arcades they seem to have dissapeared of the funfair scence. hope buisness is good hows west linton.
Treasure Island arcade only (as far as I know) operates at St Andrews Lammas Market Fair. It has the end position in the square. The owner has seen the light and settled down to permanent shop arcades. Good luck to him, he seems to be doing ok.
Blakey beside me at WL, suffering from communications blackout too!!
thanks for that showman i no it attented border funfairs until 2006 if im right. as you have been a showman for years what would you say has been your best ride you have owned over the years.many thanks borderer.
Looking at picks from selkirk and fast linton, youve done a cracking job with the paratrooper floor, looks the business, a good winter job well done, theres nothing worse than seeing a ride of any age in obvious need of attention. Times are hard but a few tins of paint and some hard work make a hell of a difference. Where next? What of blakey?? Keep up the good work!!
Ho showman just thought of great new thrill ride for you.No purchase cost, save time on build up,no more bolt's to tighten.Just leave pole down on dz give it a wee push, and let the punter's slide round on their backsides.Well r looked like he enjoyed it.
ah blakey how was west linton buisness any good?where you off to now.
Melrose next, what it lacks in business it makes up for in beauty and tranquility!! Plus I can visit my old man, we spread his ashes at his one of his favourite fishing spots.
