a fairground life

The last couple of days have been spent testing some of the rides. Not much happening at the minute. "r" has received a second recall on his L200 for faulty U bolts on the rear axle. I don't know if I mentioned it earlier but in June we had to get two new leaf springs fitted under warranty as both were broken! This means that the U bolts will have been off 3 times this year alone on the L200. Went over to the carpark we use for the Glasgow River Festival and put up some closure signs to try and thin out the amount of traffic we have to contend with on pulling in day. Hopefully this will help. The dates have changed again this year and it is now another week later falling on the last weekend of July. We have been lucky for the last 3 years as it has been dry for the event. What's the odds on four out of four??? Apart from that all I have been doing is paper work, print, copy, print, copy so that I am all ready for moving again.

All quiet this end, slow trade at the weekend can only put it down to the start of the hols. Another highland games this sat and fingers crossed for the weather as it has been so poor of late. Have seen plenty of advertising about for the river festival showman so hope its good for you.
The better half will be indoors minding the pitch this sat when i am out and about, hope its not a bad omen, maybe she knows more about the coming weather than she is letting on. Good luck with the harvest borderer, hope all the usual suspects are well and taking a nugget or two.

Went to eyemouth on behalf of fatso last year as he coud'nt make the date. He tried to contact the commitee that run the event, but got no reply so it was a no go this year. Thats showbiz.
Had a hectic weekend that mostly involve trying to keep the ground around my equipment suitable for the punters to walk on. It rained that much on friday that i thought about commissioning r to build a bridge so the people could get to me. I also spent much of the time washing mud of everything. It managed to stay dry for the event on saturday with a couple of showers on the sunday. Business back on previous years but could have been a lot worse. I then spent full day washing everything again on return home. I even had to wash the floor in the back of the blakeymobile.
I'm a bit nearer to home with an event in edinburgh on sunday. Then it's off to leicester for the special olympics on monday, and back on friday for truckfest next weekend, followed by a hire on the monday. Spent yesterday getting everything ready for the two weekends as i wont be here all next week. I'm hoping to get a couple of driving shifts in now before sunday.

One thing that I have always wondered is....does your community have the same dramas such as drugs, divorse, gays, politics & crime, like us flatties? Or is all noise lights and hot dogs till the end?]

Blakey

That's a pity, I was back down in Eyemouth this year and I was really looking forward to meeting you. For what it's worth evidently the committee to which you refer should have responded to Fatso. Big big crowds at this year’s event and they had only arranged for a bouncy castle to attend. Car park is probably big enough to support a Miami, Twister and a couple of Juvenile rides.
Hey ho never mind. The week before there was a firm who I didn’t recognise in with a couple juvenile rides. One ride in particular really impressed. It was a 3 .5 ton tow kit copy of the old Whites ski jump and dependant on the event the height of the jump could be adjusted.
Very clever engineering meant it packed away in under half an hour.

Hi borderer sorry to hear of your sad loss. I lost my last grandparent when i was 16. He lived with us in his latter years, and is still a big miss. Time was a great healer, and the memories will never leave you. Will be thinking of you and yours, and will look forward to your return to the blog. It's been interesting to hear of your recent farming exploits, and i'm sure we will hear more soon.

Sorry i missed you at eyemouth. It may interest you to know my family attended the annual fair at eyemouth for many years on the original ground on the golf course side of the river. I used to go myself up to the age of 7 before we settled in edinburgh. Some of my family[the branch fatso married into] continued to attend up until the old ground was built on. I then attended for two or three years with fatso when he moved to the other side of the river. I can still remember being there as i child. I also have some great memories of playing golf on visits to fatso in the nineties.

Hi Blakey good to hear from you. I vaguely recall the July fair on the original ground. At the time my parents had a caravan down there and if my memory serves me right for a number of years JW attended with his Ferris Wheel. As far as I know the Slater family recently tried to run fairs on what the locals call the Killie Draughts, unfortunately it’s a bit out of town meaning it wasn’t that well supported. I think the last fair was held in 2006.
Your right about the golf. Its probably one of the most under rated golf courses in the country with spectacular coastal views. Year on year the sixth hole is voted the most extraordinary hole in Britain

Borderer, suggestion, why don't you start your own web site and dedicate it to your grandfathers memory, pictures etc means then you're have somewhere to remember him by rather than discussing him in this more general forum.
