a fairground life
Well it ground hog day again, not much happening ,biz is generally quiet all over. Dropped one of "w"s pals of at the Glasgow Green the other night and it was very quiet there too. Everything running ok, except running light box on skydiver packed in, cant bring myself to get around to fixing it. Had to clean the wiring connections on the DZ last week. That was after "r" and I returned from a First Aider course arranged by the showmen's guild. Five of us had a full days course at the office and for a modest fee we were trained in basic first aid. Possibly it could save someone's life, I hope I never need to use it. The certificate lasts for three years but the knowledge will last a lifetime (unless I loose my marbles) so you never know. This was never taught at school when I was a lad, but "w" said she got some basic stuff at high school. Only thing is, with the certificate you are "legally obligated" to help someone, I know that has put many people off doing it. In this age of litigation it's no wonder.
Q-"What do you call a hundred Lawyers at the bottom of the sea"?
A-"A bloody good start"!

Morning Showman, a nice early blog you must of been writing this while having your breakfast, anyway sorry bizz is a bit down unless people get there jobs back I don't think any one will have cash to spare, how long it will last is anyones guess. A hundered lawyers eh sounds like your having dealings with them Showman. I thought you where at G/green and then splitting, must have it wrong. My neck of the woods was a bit busy over last week end, decided to go to Ardingly fair, have never been before and was surprised by the size of it, there must have been anything between 5 to 10,000 people there lots of steam engines and stalls and the like, the reason I was refering to people not having spare cash was the chat I had with Ted Harris who had a small fair on the site, he thought that bizz in general was well down from previous years and put it down to the public being sqeezed. He opened at 12 and I kept an eye on the rides and to be perfectly honest I didn't see any of them riding full and that was with all them people attending. So how's this for a coincedence, looked at Billy Crows web site last night
great stuff and excellent reading went on to Funfair world > Rides > and there was a ride called a Tornado (Joseph Manning had just bought one) opened the paper up this morning and there it was on the front page just thought that was bit strange. Any way loads of new machines on that site as you are properly aware of show man. It won't belong before our next gaff in this neck of the woods to start. Beginning August 1st I think hope you can come down.
Hope all the regs are ok and making a bob, Flatty
Quiet here too showman, Blakey must be taking all the coin! Up north today for a new gala day and despite being well advertised the turn out was poor. A long way to go and nothing gained apart from more miles on the old work horse. Set was a bit dour starting but otherwise all went ok. Back indoors sun then a local event next sat, this year is flying in!
