a fairground life (3 days of winter)
The previous week we have been closed. Noticing that the skydiver's speed seemed to lack zip at Blair, we took the pump off and sent it to Norwich to be tested. Needless to say a replacement has been ordered. I suppose 17 years service without problem is excellent by any standard. Hopefully the replacement will last as long. On Wednesday I ordered 40 square meters of decking for the garden.Mrs showman has been niggling about this for a year now. Friday we were up at 6am and took the miami to a 1 day event in Edinburgh's Napier University. The carpark was tight but we squeezed Blakey's funfair project into the space. We built up in the dry but at 10am the heavens opened and it was torrential until around 1pm. It did dry up soon after but there was no weight of people and we didn't get half of our expenses. That evening we finished and took all the kit back to Glasgow. The next morning at 8am the decking arrived and for the next two days "r" and I never got off our knees. On Sunday night the decking was finally done, just in time too as the rain came. We were meant to be headed off to Egremont by now, but we were too tired and decided to leave it for the next morning. We made a plan for 6am but didn't surface until 8:30am. I dropped "w" off at school (she's staying with the grand parents for school) and headed off to pick up the loads. I took the DZ and "r", Mrs showman brought the trailers. When we arrived at Egremont it was still pouring down. We set the ride on the plot and got soaked through doing so. After tea it dried up for an hour and in this window we got the DZ set up. Just as well as the next two days were just as bad with high winds and heavy rain showers falling on/off all day.The decking is probably now a big raft floating around the house. Here at Egremont the big hole in the car park has been repaired now. This years new attraction is "dt's" bomber ride. A good advert for the fair as it can be seen from the main road passing the town. The picture shows the bomber silhouetted behind "RF's" miami ride. We opened tonight at 6pm, it did stay dry but biz was poor tonight.

ah yes egremont a nice place showman, as for the weather conditions im just glad we finished harvest as the rain and wind have been torrential here in the borders since sunday night so ive done a bit ploughing and office work catch up on the books make some great reading for this years harvest. how long are you at egremont for showman. hows all regs doing blakey , jesters john , skyliner c. i have some big news to tell you guys will tell all in my next comment.
Didn't expect the blog to appear so soon, your very kind showman I was just looking at all the comments last night and thought we must be due. Why take a week off is that allowed, usually the gaffs are planned from one season to the next so I didn't think you slowed down till Xmas, and didn't think you would have the time to put decking down, if you are tidying the place up it sounds like a celebration or party in the offing.
You should of got Blakey and Fatso round to help. Sorry about the Trooper showman its one continuous grind you no sooner get one thing sorted then something else crops up. What happened with the fuel filter did it need a new one or was it blocked. Egremont's a nice place, lived near there when working at Sellafield very scenic part of the country. Thinking about your family showman, I vaguely remember some time ago you paying a visit to the Hoppings and in one of the pics was a lady with a pram was that Mrs Showman and guessing now, was the baby in the pram "w". Properly not but I thought at the time it might have been. The "dt" you you talk about is that the same "dt" with the Star Flyer, I didn, know he had a booster, is it new if not where did he did he get it from. If its the same person he has loads of equipment and didn't realise how much till I looked it up on the database (mind thats out of date at the mo) As I mentioned early on we Visited Stanhope last week and really enjoyed it,spent £56 in an afternoon, not on me but two kids who I took along for the sheer fun, and we loved it. This afternoon it's Stokesley, so I will enjoy myself again, and see if I can get some pics.
Hope the deck is still in one piece and the regs ok, Flatty
Just forgot showman why Norich? is there no Hydraulic companies nearer
Regards Flatty
I suppose it wasn't really a week off as we did do Napier on the Friday. There are a couple of holes in the calendar that sometimes need filled. I looked back at that picture of the Hoppings, that lady is a real looker (don't tell mrs s, I said so) but just a random person caught in the snap. "w" is at high school. Fatso was at Kendal when I laid the decking and although Blakey said he would help me (cos I helped him do maintenance on one of his properties) he was out on another job. The dt mentioned is another. The pump went to Norwich as they did such a good job on the miami items. Glad you enjoyed your visit to Stanhope, £56 is a lump, suppose you need to divide it by hours there and persons in your group to calculate value for money. Should leave Egremont on Sunday heading back to the big smoke. Never got back to that Racor fuel filter system yet, just bypassed it and relying on primary & secondary filters on the set.
evening sorry i didnt have time to add on to the previous comment on wednesday night. been busy helping neighbouring farm harvest there potatoes and getting ear ache from miss borderer. i was going to tell a bit of good news on wednesday but unknown to me it was a smidge of news compared to what happened on thursday. i went into the newsagent for the papers and miss borderers magazines and she went to check the farms syndicate lottery. i was standing chatting to a friend when my phone rang and miss b was on the line shouting weve won weve won i was like won what she said we have 5 numbers plus the bonus on the syndicate tickets from last night, i thought she was pulling my leg so i went across to where she was and low and behold she was trembling and nearly in tears. the farm syndicate is myself and miss b, and the two workers who have been working on the farm since they were lads a good 45 plus years ago. when we broke the news they were in tears aswell its a life changing some for these guys so we decided miss b and i would take 30 percent and the two guys and there familys 35 percent respectively. wasnt until i phoned camelot it was over £290,000 i was flabber gasted and still am. hows all regs doing, hows egremont showman cheers borderer.
HI Borderer,I'm racing around telling the family the good news we've never heard of anyone winning and thought like everone else that the lottery is fixed, but well done its the best news we've had in ages.
(You can go out now and buy your self a nice new waltzer) lol
Congradulations Flatty.
Congratulations Borderer on your win! That's a nice little sum you've got yourself there!
I'm just back from Egremont. Had the Skyliner open there as well. Pulled down last night in quite possibly the worst conditions. Even JB says it was one of the wettest pulldowns he's done (thank god it was only the Skyliner and not Jets as well). The rain was torrential, never seen anything like it. Only good thing was rain started after teatime and were lucky to get what we did in the afternoon when it was dry. Hope you got pulled down ok Showman
Hope all regs are well
C
i always thought the lottery was fixed so i share ur sentiments there john, myself and miss b are over the moon and happy that the 2 guys and there familys lifes will be changed and there both away on friday for 2 weeks holiday with the winnings which im more than happy to let them have time off they work hard for us and i couldnt praise them enough, miss borderer has actually been wise with the share and put most in the bank and were now on the hunt for a new flatbad lorry for the farm for the harvest runs and machinery shifting and miss b wants a new kitchen so needs must when she says lol, how was egremont showman, hope all regs doing good cheers borderer
