a fairground life (ground hog day)

Back in my box again for the last three days. Every day mostly the same. Made some phone calls and sent Blakey some texts, more or less just to agitate him, well idol hands and all that. So at 5pm when the DZ started to play up I wasn't too bothered as it broke up the monotony of the day. The ride was stopping halfway up again. "r" and I checked the brushes (all 24 of them) to no avail, so I sent "r" up the tower to remove the power rail connections and clean them. While he was doing this I noticed that all the bottom and middle rails have connectors at both ends to supply the power, while the top rails only have connectors at the bottom. This seems a bit flimsy and if they corrode the connection weakens, resulting in a power drop under load and in my opinion the computer reads a voltage drop as a zero and interprets that the connection is broken and therefor stops the ride (digital systems work with 1 or 0 = on or off, there is no in between). Right enough after we cleaned the connectors the ride was working again fine. So a job for a little later will be to attach a second set of wires to the top of the rails to add a bit of reliability to the whole operation. Typical manufacturing penny pinching that creates problems far in excess of the costs involved to do the job right in the first place! Bloody accountants!!

R was fairly moving the show, it was rattling along at a decent rate, lol, what i dont get is why there are 24 brush connections on the car? What are they all doing? assuming 4 are for power, 2 are for car interlocks, what are the rest doing?? They do over complicate things these days, bypass the lot of them lol.

Was at usual indoor haunt sat and sun, have to say that was the best weekend so far, absolutely the best you can get, a constant stream all day, usually you get one or two busy hours to make your cash but this weekend was ideal, sometimes when indoors a bit of rain is good, it gets them away from sitting in the garden, a good weekend all told and hope next wknd the same!

glad someone is getting a living, really struggling at the mall. There is no people about!! could be credit crunch or is it the effect of Silverburn mall being in full swing now????
All thoughs DZ brushes on interlocks for bars, compressor feed, pressure monitors, 24v feeds, 230v feeds, lighting controls, solenoid valves, earths etc etc. You know what they say-"the more complicated the plumbing, the easier to stop up the works!!!" ABSOLUTELY TRUE
keep on keeping on.

hi showman hope buisness picks up when you start the highland games run? people predicted the credit crunch would hit people hard i think it has hut some familys hard but on saturday we went a shopping trip to metro centre newcastle and it was heaving you would have thought the shops were closing for good the way people were buying, scottish house prices are up 1 percent and english are down 6 percent which means a lot of people are placing there house on the market and the english are moving north as prices are that cheap. why dont you rent out your house the months you are travelling because rental is another good option and would be better making income than it sitting there empty. as i say hope things pick up and hope all are well. take care.

Hi blakey here hope all you reader's are well.I,m just back from the back of beyond.Set of at seven on friday.Three and a half hours of mostly bad roads later i had covered just over a hundred mile's [this included a stop for cuppa] so not bad going.Anyway after about twenty minute's of waiting it turn's out a logging lorry has shed it's load in middle of roadworks.GOT going again in just under an hour . Five mile later had blow out on lorry.Got going again after about forty five minute's.Dont think i get a job in a pit lane.Get about another thirty mile then hit worst road i,ve ever been on with loads.Ten miles of single road with passing places's,through a forest up and down hill,s with blind corner's and road work's[to finally widen the road]along most of it.Was bit worried about the wife pulling caravan behind me as i had'nt told her about this bit but she coped well.Told her we can go anywhere now. Finally reached destination after almost seven hour's.
Anyway after all that we got bit better luck.I think i was in the only dry place in scotland on saturday.
Got home without incident on sunday. It was a long way to go without a spare[hundred and fifty miles] as i could'nt get one where i was it was the back of beyond after all.Got new tyre for front today and replaced one at the back as well. All ready for next trip to lancashire, leave on thursday after two days driving for agency tuesday and wednesday. Its a hard life.Harder than siting in that box anyway.Hope it fine for everone at weekend.

yea the show has no weight in it at all showman has it upto 80 once over but what didn't help was the fact that i thought it was four low four high, turns out it has five gears (i was told this two days after driving it) kind explains why i had trouble getting the gears !!! lol but hey live and learn !

Little grey matter working overtime today (too much time on my hands) So a couple of thoughts or questions, r has his class 2, rigids etc, cls 1 for artics etc, what covers a class 2 unit drawing a trailer? As in most waltzer type arangements? is that covered by the artic licence?
Is there a qualifying break time between doing your class 2 then going for class 1? Dont intend to do either just interested!
r mentioned the show is on the light side, whats the weigh in of the rides? Guessing it would be show, then para, then miami with dz the heaviest? All answers appreciated, No prize for answering all, well maybe small swag....Cheers all!

Thought there may have been some replies by now! Had to check my CPC notes as it has been 10 years since I done it, and even then I find it hard to try & answer the questions! Think it has a lot to do with the weight of the vehicle that you are driving & the trailer you are pulling. Can't see anything about Showmans Special Haulage, if it still exists? Perhaps been replaced by CAT1, CAT2 etc? At work we put people through their Class1 & 2 on a fairly regular basis, yet I don't know if there has to be a certain period of time between tests? I seem to remember something also coming out recently about being able to drive a higher class of vehicle under the age limits, as long as you were only driving your own company's vehicles & only carrying your own campany's goods? I'm sure Showman can enlighten us???

its now broken into class A (bike) B(car) C(ridged lorry) plus there is a bus license (but we will ignore that cos you only need it to cary over 8 passengers) and then you do your plus E(with trailer) you can do A+E(bike and trailer) B+E(car and trailer) then finally C+E(lorry and trailer) all of these can be sat as separate tests but if you wait till you pass your C+E it covers all the rest. technically you can sit your C+E with an 4 wheeler and trailer but it is more common to sit it with an arctic as they are more commonly used in day to day transport. time between test is as long as it takes for the DVLA to get your license sent back to you aprox 3 weeks i have passed my C and have booked my C+E for this month (but i'm not saying when lol ) you must sit your C+E with a box truck trailer (no flat beds allowed although they used to be ) and i think but am not sure it has to be no less than 30 ft long. In 2010 all lorry test with have to be under partial load because just now you do your test in an empty lorry so really you pass in a 30ft empty box truck and the next day you get in the cab of a 52ft 30 ton truck thinking it will take corners and have the same stopping ability as the one you passed your test in which it does not !!. anywho hope that helped.

well "r" sorted out the hgv quiz, in my day you could go with nothing, sit your class 1 in a 24ft articulated van!!(almost) then go out the next day in a 60ft fully loaded trailer!
Any takers for the weights of the attractions from lightest to heaviest??
